Kormoran houseboat series

The queen: Kormoran 1500 (four cabins)
Kormoran 1280 (three cabins)
Kormoran 1140 (two cabins)
Kormoran 940 (one cabin)

The Kormoran model series leave nothing to be desired in a boat. Why? The resaon why is founded in the history of development of the cosy steel displacement boat: in the 1990s Kormoran houseboats werde developed as charter boats for inland waters. The charter entrepreneur Harald Kuhnle assigned the yacht designer Peter Sonntag to design a perfect charterboat. Harald Kuhnle made the following demands:

  • Cabins should be equivalent (no cabins without headroom).
  • The kitchenette should be as good as a normal kitchen: 4-flame-cooker, large refridgerator, hot and cold running water, large worktop.
  • Every cabin should have its own bathroom with shower, WC and washbasin.
  • The boat should be easy to manoeuvre in order to make it easier for beginners.
  • The boat should have an inside and an outside helmstand.
  • Technical equipment should be sturdy, easy to understand and easy to handle. No complicated, frail aggregates with high maintenance requirements.
  • The interior design should be easy to clean.

When Peter Sonntag showed his first drafts, Harald Kuhnle could see immediately that he had assigned the right person. The drafts met all the criteria and the boat came in a traditional look of dark wood, brass and a sedate hulk that enthused every boat lover. The Kormoran also passed the practical test in everyday charter life.

Over the years the Kormoran houseboat was developed and today you can choose between four boat sizes (lengths 9,40 m, 11,40 m, 12,80 m, 15m). Improvement of the hulk reduced the diesel consumption a lot.

In every little detail you can see that the Kormoran houseboat was improved by real life testing and the direct link between charter company and Kuhnle shipyard proved to be very useful.

Today the Kuhnle shipyard is able to offer a technically mature houseboat which is easy to maintain. It is also not only ideal for houseboating on inland waters but also suitable and admitted in semi-enclosed seas.
